The plan of the director of the Mula Castle marks its recovery over the next ten years (27/12/2018)

The Community will invest next year 200,000 euros for the recovery and enhancement of the fortification

The Master Plan for the recovery of the Mula Castle proposes actions during the next ten years that will be carried out at different levels, as reflected in this document presented today and that has funded with 64,800 euros the Ministry of Tourism and Culture within the scheduled actions for the period 2017-2019 aimed at the recovery and enhancement of this Property of Cultural Interest.

The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Juan Antonio Lorca, attended the presentation of the master plan in Mula and recalled that "over the last two years, the Community has allocated almost 390,000 euros to the conservation and recovery of the Mula Castle; an amount that is now added 200,000 euros more included in the budgets of 2019 and that will allow to continue with the actions marked by the master plan after concluding the emergency actions that are being carried out ".

In this way, "the regional government reaffirms its commitment to this emblematic construction of the fifteenth century and the historical and cultural heritage of our municipalities," added Lorca, who opted to "join forces between different administrations to continue with its value "and asked the central executive" a greater involvement. "

In this sense, the person in charge of Cultural Assets recalled that "to date, the regional government is the only administration that has invested in the castle."

The master plan is the guiding tool for the proper conservation, restoration and sustainable development of the monument, highlighting the unique characteristics of a defensive nature.

The document starts from a ten-year horizon date from its approval for actions that have been scheduled and will be executed at different levels.

For the elaboration of this plan and following the guidelines and methodology established by the National Defensive Architecture Plan, the strength has been studied and analyzed from different aspects: historical, archaeological, architectural, urban, legal, environmental, landscape, cultural management and tourism, maintenance, etc., also incorporating a study of the different actions to be carried out both in the castle and in the surrounding environment.

It is also the benchmark for any intervention by the central government within the framework of the National Plan of Fortifications of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain, and increases the possibilities when it comes to obtaining aid to finance works of conservation of real estate of the Heritage Historical Spanish that are granted within the 1.5 percent cultural program of the Ministry of Development.

Emergency actions

Regarding the actions of an urgent nature that marks the master plan and that will ensure security in some sectors of the fortified area, the Community has financed with 96,433 euros the works of consolidation of the wall in the section that is on the northeast side of the Albacar campus and that are being carried out at the moment.

The emergency works are aimed at reversing the danger of collapse and detachment of part of the walls of calicostrada earth, as well as to avoid the deterioration of the wall.
