The director of Environmental Quality and Evaluation, Encarna Molina, met today with the mayor of Mula, Juan Jesus Moreno, to analyze and supervise the delivery of the sealing and environmental restoration works of the zone contaminated by inert discharge in the El Arreaque 'of the said municipality, which had a budget of 135,650 euros, co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

This project is part of the set of actions that have allowed since 2010 the sealing of a series of waste dumps for municipal construction and demolition located in the Abarán, Águilas, Bullas, Jumilla, Mula, Ulea and Yecla, with a total investment of 3,288,983 euros.

Encarna Molina noted that this Mula landfill "was included in the infringement file initiated by the European Commission in 2015 against the Kingdom of Spain for non-compliance with the Waste Directive. On the occasion of the letter of formal notice issued by the Commission, General for Quality and Environmental Assessment reported in February 2016 that this inert waste dump was inactive and that the sealing and restoration works were already executed at that time at 75 percent. "

The objectives of the landfill adequacy have been to stabilize the slopes in order to minimize the possible risks that can be produced by a break, to uniformize the surface and to reveal it in order to develop some kind of compatible use with those existing in the environment and to have control over the Erosive processes.

The landfill has an area of 21,292 m2 and the adaptation works supposed to remove a volume of 10,133 m3 of debris and contribute a volume of land of 6,838 m3.

The meeting with the mayor also dealt with other matters of interest to the municipality, such as the situation of the works and the economic-administrative file of the subsidy granted by the Ministry to the City Council for the preparation of a clean point, amounting to 80,498 Euros, through the Pemar Plan for clean points of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment.

Finally, we analyzed the situation of strategic environmental assessment files that are being processed in the general direction, in order to resolve and guide the City in key questions of the procedures and achieve maximum agility in its resolution, which, according to Encarna Molina, "will positively result in the implementation of economic activity in this municipality."
