Culture refers the sanction files to the owners of Castillo de Mula (15/08/2017)

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, through the Directorate General of Cultural Property, has sent to the owners of Castillo de los Fajardo or Vélez de Mula the resolution to liquidate the sanctioning file for its inactivity in the adoption of Conservation measures, custody and protection to ensure the integrity of the monument, declared to be of Cultural Interest, and thus prevent its destruction or deterioration.

The sanction file initiated against a dozen owners for administrative infraction, typified in the Law of Cultural Patrimony of the Region of Murcia, contemplates a fine for a total amount of 49,568 euros, divided according to the participation quota of each one of them On the property.

The resolution has already been signed by the heads of the Ministry, so sending the letter of payment of each of the settlements referred to is imminent.

Once received, the payment of the sanction imposed must be paid.

Emergency works

Apart from the administrative route opened by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment against the owners of the Castle of Mula in accordance with the Heritage Law, a few days ago the Order was approved to carry out, on the part of Culture, Emergency actions that guarantee the safety of this construction of the XVI century.

During the last visit carried out by the technicians of the Ministry, the lack of protections was verified in certain areas of the castle and, although the enclosure is not at the moment open to the public, warned on the necessity to take protective measures to avoid situations of Risk and danger for their own good and for the people.

The performances will be held this August and have a budget of almost 25,000 euros.

They consist, in the first place, in the revision and repair of the current enclosure, placing indicative signs that warn of the prohibition of passage, and will close also the inner zone, in the west zone behind the wall, with galvanized metal fence.

A temporary guardrail will be placed in the entrance and elevated bridge area and consolidation of tapial canvases will be carried out in the entrance area, as well as the protection of seven holes, with galvanized metal grating, and the suitability of the ladder And upper patio railing.

Regarding the Tower of Homage, the adaptation and protection of the southwest corner will be carried out, with the disassembly of non-original elements that represent danger of detachment, besides taking other complementary measures such as the removal of vegetation.

From the Community, the City of Mula, one of the property owners, is also urged to take action to continue guaranteeing the safety and integrity of the castle;

Measures for which an important budget was provided from Culture, fulfilling the mandate of the Regional Assembly through the inclusion of a specific item in the Law of Budgets.

Specifically, the City Council has been required to execute 80,000 of the 166,371 euros granted by the Autonomous Community for the support of the western tower of the wall, an action that was pending a geotechnical study and finalized.

Also, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment is waiting to receive the Master Plan for the Castle of Mula with all the actions to be carried out, which has funding from the Community and technical support from the Directorate General of Cultural Property.

The drafting of the Master Plan was put out to tender and is pending award.
