[The Muleños hoteliers mobilize against the measures that force them to be closed (26/01/2021)

Muleño hoteliers have gathered this Monday in Cristóbal Gabarrón Park to express their rejection of the measures imposed by the regional administration that forces them to remain closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. With strict security measures and the support of all municipal political groups, the president of the Association of Merchants and Hoteliers of Mula (Acohomul) proceeded to read a manifesto in favor of the hospitality industry and where the sector delved into the hard and fast strict measures to which they have been doomed since last March and that have pushed businesses to the limit. This situation, added to the fact that in the periods that they have been able to open, they have done so with capacity and schedule restrictions, is leading them to ruin and many will have to close definitively as they no longer have room to react. The event was held without the public and without a public call to avoid any kind of agglomeration in support of the sector. The Muleño hoteliers have once again shown commitment, seriousness and union and have asked the neighbors to individually contribute to curbing this virus so that the situation can stabilize again and be able to reopen the hotel business. MANIFESTO HOSTELERÍA MULA.

Monday 25 January We are facing the third closure of the hospitality industry since last March. No business sector is suffering the social and economic harassment to which the restaurant sector is being subjected and we are facing this health crisis doubly: as citizens and as a closed sector that despite not having income has to continue to face its payments . We have worked in recent months under very restrictive conditions, sometimes even too much.

We do not have to recall again how they not only limited the capacity of our premises during this Christmas, but they forced us to close the afternoons of the main holidays limiting our work and therefore our income. There are still those who say that the hospitality industry is not the culprit when, with the slightest hint of a rise in affected cases, even knowing that these come from the social sphere, they close the doors.

We assure that no, that the hotel industry is not the culprit. According to a recent study at the national level, it has been shown that the hospitality industry does not have a direct impact on the growth of infections after Christmas.

The rise in affected cases in recent weeks coincided with tough restrictions on these businesses and a general decline in reserves. Over the last 10 months we have had to adapt to all the preventive measures that were indicated to us, guaranteeing the best service for our clients.

With a third closure on our backs the data is not encouraging at all.

From last March to the end of December, little more than 600 affected cases had occurred in our municipality.

Only so far in 2021 the cases in Mula exceed 700, we do not believe that it is our fault and more so when most of the time since the Covid arrived, or we have been closed or restricted labor. We have seen how nightlife was orphaned. We have closed our bars, the capacity inside has been drastically reduced, the celebrations have come to nothing and we have taken our premises to the streets.

Many of us have reinvented ourselves, we have adapted our businesses and the 'to go' is our only opportunity now.

Are you sure it's our only chance? No, we assure that these measures do not work, that we do not even cover the costs of providing this service, even so, we continue to do so to maintain the loyalty of our customers.

Not only is it hard to close, it is also hard to see that we do not arrive while the bills pile up and the cash register is empty. We support other businesses, we do not want anyone to have to look like us, but it is true that no one can get angry if it offends us that sectors similar to ours keep their doors open and we all witness that the rules are not being the same for everyone.

We get angry when we see that capacity is not respected, when we see crowds in supermarket queues or when there are no dispensers of hydroalcoholic gels in many establishments.

It is not the same that in the bar or restaurant they disinfect your table and chair before sitting down and that we go to health centers or of any other type without knowing who will have sat there before ...

nobody demands anything, the only demands have been in us and have been visible to all. The Muleña hospitality industry was the first to take action.

In March, before the state of alarm was decreed, unanimously, with great responsibility and absolute solidarity, we decided to close our establishments to fight this pandemic.

We are a tough, generous and fighting sector, but we are in a moment of extreme weakness. All our work and our effort has come to nothing when now, in the middle of the third wave of infections and with a health situation adrift, we are the only sector that must close its doors, placing ourselves as responsible for the increase in cases. We are one of the few sectors that has better adapted to the new reality.

Each and every one of our actions has been visible because our work is always open to the public, with the doors open and ready to be judged. Every week they put new rules on us and it has been a lifeless thing to face all of them while we continued serving our customers.

Always ready and always grateful because every time someone walks through the door of your establishment it is a breath of fresh air to your daily work. Today we are here to speak out on behalf of our sector: hospitality.

Celebration halls, restaurants, bars or cafes, all unique, all essential and all a very important part of the Muleña economy. They talk about essential activities, are we really not essential? Understand, all activities are essential from the moment there are families who eat from them. We love our work.

It is our way of life.

Dozens of families depend on us, all of them will be affected, as well as many other diverse sectors that we also include in this concentration: butchers, bakers, fishmongers, fruit vendors or beverage distributors, the list would be too long to mention them all . We need and demand measures that really allow us to get ahead with our businesses.

We stand up and ask for the maximum respect and appreciation that corresponds to this sector and the families that work in it.
