The Mule Cigarralejo recalls the figure of Emeterio Cuadrado, who discovered the deposit, with an exhibition (03/02/2016)

The Museum of Iberian Art Mula Cigarralejo, under the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson, opens tomorrow the exhibition 'The time stopped.

The photographic legacy of Square Emeterio Diaz ', which contains more than 40 images from the personal archive of Murcia Mülenen engineer who discovered the deposit, to which he devoted forty years of his life.

The photographs on display in the museum come mostly Archivo General de Murcia, although there are images donated by the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid and other family of Isasa Square.

The exhibition has been driven by the Documentation Centre of Archaeology and Heritage of the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Museum of Iberian Art The Cigarralejo and the Museum of the University of Murcia, and has had several partners.

Mülenen sample space is divided into several areas that relate to the lives of Emeterio Cuadrado, to work as an engineer and his work as archaeologist, the site of the Cigarralejo, the creation of the museum and its legacy, the Association of Friends of Archaeology.

To complete the exhibition project 'The time stopped', the Association of Friends of the Museum of Iberian Art The Cigarralejo has published a catalog with about 250 pages including photographs of the sample and objects in the exhibition, as well as several articles on Square written by friends and collaborators.

The opening of the exhibition will take place tomorrow, February 4, at 19:00, with a lecture by Professor of Archaeology at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Juan Blánquez, and the director of the Museum of the University of Murcia, José Miguel Garcia Cano.

It will remain open until March 27, Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 11:00 to 14:00 hours.

Square Emeterio Diaz (1907-2002) is considered one of the fathers of archeology.

He was an engineer of roads, canals and ports profession and soon discovered her love of archeology, which led him to excavate and study for forty years the Iberian complex Cigarralejo and to found the Association of Friends of Archaeology (Asamar).

After studying in Madrid, he was sent to Cartagena as project manager in Taibilla Channel, and from a young age showed cultural concerns.

Later, he promoted as deputy mayor of Cartagena creating the Municipal Archaeological Museum.

His love of archeology grew with the discovery of several deposits during construction of the canal, and in particular the Iberian complex Cigarralejo (village shrine and necropolis), discovered in 1945, devoted his life to.

Along with the excavations of the necropolis he built a small house, which he called 'Hotel Necropol' establishing spent specialists and professors from Spain, France, Portugal and Germany, as well as students of the University of Murcia interested in the subject.

The result of their research was published by the Higher Council for Scientific Research in the regalia of more than three hundred tombs, whose findings have provided guidance for the work of later generations iberistas.
