The Iberian Art Museum 'The Cigarralejo' expands its space to meet the new demands (08/09/2008)

Iberian Art Museum 'The Cigarralejo' Mula has expanded its space after the renovations that have allowed, explained today at a press conference the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pedro Alberto Cruz, "bring the museum to new regulations and, above all the new projects, such as the Network of Documentation and Research Centre belongs to the Autonomous Network of Museums, and the new discourse that this Council wants to apply to that network. As said the regional head of Culture, these works, which began in September 2007, responding to increased staffing and auxiliary scientific center, as well as their cultural and technical, focusing on the preservation, cataloging, research, study and dissemination of collections, and the acquisition in 2003 by the Autonomous Community of the votive offerings from the sanctuary of Cigarralejo parts "only around the peninsular."

In addition, the project has sought to combine the rehabilitation of a building of cultural interest, and have not been altered spaces or the appearance of the whole, with the introduction of new elements and technologies that eighteenth-century building was not ready, like the elevator, air conditioning or security cameras.

Have also been zoned spaces taking into account the functions and separating them from public areas reserved for staff.

Main actions

On the ground floor of the main building has an elevator built public toilets and appropriate for use by individuals with disabilities and the creation of a small shop.

Furthermore, it has prepared the space for offices, library and meeting room to accommodate new rooms for the permanent exhibition of archaeological materials from the Iberian shrine of 'The Cigarralejo'.

The first floor has acted in the toilets, which have been adapted and installed an elevator, while on the second floor is the main action undertaken to house the administrative, management, library and other necessary offices for the operation of the museum institution.

Also on the ground floor addition has been created a multipurpose room, a materials store, a locker room for staff and a block of toilets.

Finally, the first floor of the building has been naturalized and compartmentalized to create a study room, drawing and inventory, provided the number of researchers working at the museum.

The refurbishment works have enjoyed a lead time of a year and a budget of 634,771 euros.
